I've been breathing the blog-free air for about a week and a half now. It's not a complete blog-abstinence - I've continued monitoring spying on interrogating reading my kids' blogs, blogs of other family members, and two other blogs that edify me. But I'm no longer drinking from the daily firehose of the blogosphere.
All it took was me reading one last snarky, straw-mannish, ungracious comment on another blog to get me asking the question I should have asked a long time ago: "Why do I do this? What earthly good is the blogosphere, anyway?"
I realized there was no good reason for me to immerse myself in the blogosphere. I've been heavily into blogs for over four years now, and I'm not sure that the net effect has been good. That doesn't mean that there aren't some tremendous blogs out there - there are. I will continue reading a very few of them, but I'm hoping I'll be a lot more choosy. And hopefully I'll stick with this.
You might think about taking a break from the blogosphere too. Try it, you might like it!
You don't need to read blogs.

Bill, I think you have made a wise and mature decision. Now, what are you going to do with the time you have gained? I'm sure it will be something wise and mature!
Raindream: I'm sort of in the reverse state: I am thinking I should quit reading (most) other blogs and concentrate on writing on my own blog more.
When I put it that way, I sound kind of megalomaniacal, don't I? :-)
Why Not: Wise and mature? Well, if that's the case it's another example of "there's a first time for everything" :-)
I think you should also take a look at Thinklings and try to revive that puppy, along with blogging here. Cross-post sometime.
I've been ramping back on blogging due to work and I miss both reading and writing. But if cutting back works for you I say go for it!
I took a bit of a break from reading several and have dropped some myself.
I'm with you, though I've never stuck my face in the firehose. I can't drink that fast. Often, I've thought I should stop blogging and just read other's blogs, but I don't want to do that yet.
